Azzore was founded in 1995, by Dr. Terry L. Dew, a board certified small animal surgeon. As the only board certified veterinary surgeon in the state of Arkansas, Dr. Dew was initially a mobile surgeon, performing procedures in individual practices. As the practice matured Dr. Dew provided services in Emergency Centers in Springdale, Little Rock and Memphis. In April 2009, Dr. Dew opened the Azzore Veterinary Specialists surgery center in Russellville, conveniently located in the scenic River Valley of central Arkansas. This new location allows Dr. Dew to provide the highest quality specialized veterinary care to animals throughout the Mid-South.

Azzore is pleased to be able to offer the best in small animal surgery.

Our mission at Azzore is to educatecare and communicate.

We seek to educate our clients and the veterinarians we work with not only about treatments available, but also about tried and true ways in which we can improve a pet’s well being. We do this through a variety of traditional and non-traditional methods of communication. You can find out about our services by picking up the phone, coming in for a face-to-face consultation with Dr. Dew, sending us a question via email, or by attending a continuing education event. Azzore also has brochures and flyers about our practice and some of the procedures we offer that are available upon request.

We seek to care for our patients’ and clients’ well being from the first contact they have with our clinic until the time they leave a picture of health. Our client service coordinators gather information about symptoms and current treatments so that we have an initial diagnosis when we schedule the appointment. This allows us to make sure the necessary supplies are on hand at the time of the appointment (especially in the cases where medication or implants have to be special ordered).

Our surgical facility includes a lab which enables us to run bloodwork if recent bloodwork is not available for the patient. Our facility was designed with the comfort of the clients and their pets in mind, with a spacious and attractive waiting room, and large, easy to clean kennels for the patient both before and after surgery. In addition to our skilled daytime clinical staff, our services include trained overnight staff to monitor and treat patients throughout the night post surgery.

We seek to communicate about your pet’s health care needs, on the telephone, in the exam room and over the internet, making sure you have the information you need to make the best decisions. But, the communication doesn’t stop there. Once a decision has been made to go ahead with surgery, we continue to update our clients using a variety of methods.

Many of our clients have Twitter and Facebook accounts, and choose to follow Azzore so that they can see pictures of their pet and receive notifications of where their pet is during our clinical day. If they haven’t seen an update, they can always use the Direct Message function to receive a quick reply on their pet’s status. Our clients still receive a phone call from Dr. Dew after surgery letting them know how their pet did and, of course, they are welcome to call at any time to speak with a live person about their pet’s status. At discharge, every client receives a copy of the surgery report and a printout of aftercare instructions which are also gone over with the discharge nurse before we release the patient. We have a dedicated email address for postop questions which is monitored by our clinical staff, and we are, of course, available by phone to answer any questions that might arise. As a veterinary surgical specialty practice, we are an extension of the general practice animal health care communities we serve, and work closely with our referring veterinarians to provide the most comprehensive care and service available. We do not offer routine animal health services, such as vaccinations, wellness exams, or other preventative veterinary care.

The exceptional staff at Azzore is dedicated to creating the best possible experience for our clients and patients. A skilled clinical team provides the highest level of around-the-clock patient care, while our administrative staff uses a variety of communications outlets to keep you informed.

Our goal is to provide the very best care for our clients and patients. If there is anything that would make our communications work more effectively, or something you would like to see us add, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
