Azzore was founded in 1995, by Dr. Terry L. Dew, a board certified small animal surgeon. As the only board certified veterinary surgeon in the state of Arkansas, Dr. Dew was initially a mobile surgeon, performing procedures in individual practices. As the practice matured Dr. Dew provided services in Emergency Centers in Springdale, Little Rock and Memphis. In April 2009, Dr. Dew opened the Azzore Veterinary Specialists surgery center in Russellville, conveniently located in the scenic River Valley of central Arkansas. This new location allows Dr. Dew to provide the highest quality specialized veterinary care to animals throughout the Mid-South.
In September of 2010, Dr. Mario Hodgson joined the Azzore staff. Dr. Hodgson is a graduate of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. He received additional specialty training through an intensive, three-year residency program approved through the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. He completed his residency with Craig Fischer DVM, DACVO, in Clearwater, Florida, and is currently pursuing ACVO board certification.
Azzore is pleased to be able to offer not only the best in small animal surgery, but also diagnostics and treatment of animal eye disease.
Our mission at Azzore is to educate, care and communicate.
We seek to educate our clients and the veterinarians we work with not only about treatments available, but also about tried and true ways in which we can improve a pet’s well being. We do this through a variety of traditional and non-traditional methods of communication. You can find out about our services by picking up the phone, coming in for a face-to-face consultation with Dr. Dew, sending us a question via email, or by attending a continuing education event. Azzore also has brochures and flyers about our practice and some of the procedures we offer that are available upon request.
We seek to care for our patients’ and clients’ well being from the first contact they have with our clinic until the time they leave a picture of health. Our client service coordinators gather information about symptoms and current treatments so that we have an initial diagnosis when we schedule the appointment. This allows us to make sure the necessary supplies are on hand at the time of the appointment (especially in the cases where medication or implants have to be special ordered).
Our surgical facility includes a lab which enables us to run bloodwork if recent bloodwork is not available for the patient. Our facility was designed with the comfort of the clients and their pets in mind, with a spacious and attractive waiting room, and large, easy to clean kennels for the patient both before and after surgery. In addition to our skilled daytime clinical staff, our services include trained overnight staff to monitor and treat patients throughout the night post surgery.
We seek to communicate about your pet’s health care needs, on the telephone, in the exam room and over the internet, making sure you have the information you need to make the best decisions. But, the communication doesn’t stop there. Once a decision has been made to go ahead with surgery, we continue to update our clients using a variety of methods.
The exceptional staff at Azzore is dedicated to creating the best possible experience for our clients and patients. A skilled clinical team provides the highest level of around-the-clock patient care, while our administrative staff uses a variety of communications outlets to keep you informed.
Our goal is to provide the very best care for our clients and patients. If there is anything that would make our communications work more effectively, or something you would like to see us add, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
