Leelee is a 10 year old French Bulldog. She had dealt with a few incidences of rear limb paresis, and then became acutely weak in te rear limbs. Her veterinarian, Dr. Butler at Rye Hill Veterinary Clinic referred to Dr. Dew, who performed a CT Scan and Hemilaminectomy. Leelee’s prognosis is good for healing and improved neurologic function.

Busta is a 4year old Yorkshire Terrier. Dr. Stropes at Crossover Veterinary Clinic diagnosed him with a torn CCL and referred to Dr. Dew for surgery. Dr. Dew performed a TTA and MPL correction. His prognosis is good for healing, improved function and decreased progression of degenerative joint disease (arthritis). Nursing care, physical therapy, exercise restriction and the use of Glycoflex will play critical roles in an uncomplicated recovery and optimization of long term function.

for the week of April 16th thru April 20th, 2012

Gitty is a 9 year old  Domestic Short Hair Feline. Her veterinarian is Dr. Pike at the Animal Hospital of Eureka Springs. Gitty was staggering and had ear inflammation. History of recurrent head tilt and nystagmus. Dr. Dew performed a CT Scan and a Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA).  Gitty should recover well from surgery and resolution of the ear disease should be the end result.  Facial nerve palsy can be noted after surgery.  This is normally transient, resolving in 3-14 days.  The chance of complications will be drastically reduced by following discharge instructions and maintaining the E-collar. The long term prognosis will be dictated by the tissue type.

Sadi is a lovely, 12 year old, Cocker Spaniel. She weighs 29 lbs and her veterinarian is Dr. Reece at Greers Ferry Veterinary Clinic. Sadie was diagnosed with a CCL tear, Dr. Dew performed a TTA. Her prognosis from his surgery is good for healing, improved function and decreased progression of degenerative joint disease (arthritis).  Nursing care, physical therapy, exercise restriction and the use of Glycoflex will play critical roles in an uncomplicated recovery and optimization of long term function. Sadie also had some issues with her left eye, so Dr. Hodgson took a episcleral biopsy. He will have the results approximately next week and will proceed with further diagnostics then.

Clover  is a Pitbull. She is 1 year and 11 months old. She weighs 46.3 lbs. Her veterinarian is Dr. McCutcheon at Park Avenue Animal Hospital. Clover had been doing very well on both hips, over previous 3-4 months and the right rear limb function had been declining. Clover came to see Dr. Dew for a Total Hip Replacement revision. (THR). She has a fair prognosis for an uncomplicated recovery and a pain free hip function.

FERGIE is a Brittany Spaniel. She is 3yrs old and weighs 33#. Her veterinarian is Dr. Matthew Long at Mountain View Animal Hospital. Fergie was a rescue, and had poor left rear limb use. Dr. Long identified bilateral hip dysplasia with severe DJD on the left. Dr. Dew performed a Cemented Total Hip Replacement (THR). Fergie has an excellent prognosis for recovery and lifetime pain free function with her hip replacement.
