is a female dachshund 4 years old 8 lbs, who suffered from rear limb lameness. Dr. Hoffman at Westside Veterinary Clinic referred to Dr. Dew for surgery. Dr. Dew performed a CT Scan and a Hemilaminectomy. When he viewed the ct scan, he not only found a disc issue but also found a peach pit in her stomach! He removed that as well. The prognosis is good for healing and improved neurologic function.

is a male terrier mix, who suffered from bilateral diabetic cataracts. Dr. Cabantac at St. Francis Veterinary Clinic referred to Dr. Hodgson for surgery. Dr. Hodgson performed cataract surgery. The prognosis is good for recovery from surgery and improved vision.

is a male Poodle, 2 years old 12.9 lbs, who suffered from a dislocated right hip. Dr. Bridges at Banfield Pet Hospital referred Dr. Dew for surgery. Dr. Dew performed a TPO. The prognosis is good for normal bone healing, improved function and decreased progression of arthritis.

Sophie

is a female Maltese, 1 ½ years old 8.2 lbs, who suffered from vomiting after possibly ingesting asphalt. Dr. Gibson at Greers Ferry Veterinary Clinic referred to Dr. Dew for surgery. Dr. Dew performed radiographs and abdominal palpation. No foreign body was noted, so Dr. Dew treated Sophie with some medications and prescribed a new temporary diet. Dr. suspects the vomiting should subside fairly quickly.

The following patients were all seen for Cranial Cruciate Ligament rupture or tear.
This is similar to a football player’s ACL injury.

There are two surgeries that Dr. Dew uses to repair/correct CCL injuries:
– TTA (tibial tuberosity advancement)
– EFS (external fascial strip)

With either of these surgeries, each of these babies will have strict confinement for the first 2 weeks after surgery, and then gradually increased exercise (controlled with leash) for the next 8-10 weeks after that. Physical therapy and medical therapy, which could include Glycoflex III (joint supplement) and an NSAID called Previcox if not previously on a different NSAID, will play a critical role in the patient’s recovery.

Boomer

is a male Maltese, 8 years old 7 lbs, who suffered from luxating patellas and a torn cranial cruciate ligament. Dr. Summerford at Waggin’ Wheel Veterinary Clinic referred to Dr. Dew for surgery. Dr. Dew performed a Bilateral TTT and a right TTA. The prognosis is good for healing, improved function and decreased progression of degenerative joint disease (arthritis).  Nursing care, physical therapy, exercise restriction and the use of Glycoflex will play critical roles in an uncomplicated recovery and optimization of long term function.
